By Julie McGain for The Times By Emma, 8.c “What cannot often can”, these word has been the motto for many people for years now, but the woman who said these famous words is sitting right in front of me. Emma Bale is the richest woman in Hollywood since Oprah Winfrey, The sexiest woman alive according to E!magazine reader poll from 2025. And last but not least she is “The Catwoman” – in many ways. “Well, it is actual really hard to imagine, how all these things came true, because it happened so fast!” Emma says, with a smile on her face. In spite of the fact that she is only 31, Emma has accomplished so many things in her life. Some people prefer to call her “The Queen of Movie” or “The Movie queen”. She has directed, acted, produced and singed! She is Emma Bale – Movie legend! Her newest hit “A beautiful girl” is a huge blockbuster and the leading role Maria Caleb is heading towards an Oscar, which Emma of cause also is running towards (her 8th one). “I re-ally like my new movie! I am so proud, and it really touches something in my heart and of cause, the crew was just amazing to work with! We did this movie in just 3 months, and now it’s out in the theater only 6 month after we started. I like the story about this girl, who really wants to be a success in life. Every where she goes, the only thing people can tell her is, that she is beautiful – and that can sometimes get in the way for something she really wants even if its beauty or other talents that comes in your way”. And this very much reminds of Em-ma’s way to success. She lived in a very small country called Denmark, and the opportunity of making hit movies wasn’t so high. She was raised by a well family and went to a private school in Aalborg. So she had the opportunity to become a billionaire IT-guru or math-geek maybe even a top boss, but Emma had a passion for making films and it wasn’t everybody who thought that would be a good idea. “My parents also thought that I should be in the IT business, because I had my own website that I spend a lot of time on – and I loved it! But I never wanted to make it into a career. So they also pointed out, how rich I could be and stuff. But of cause they also supported me in my dreams. But I felt that everybody always wanted me to be something bigger” Emma also knew that, she wanted to be creative, tell stories and she loved being in charge. So unknown for her, a director was the perfect job. At first she wanted to be an actress. “When I first got to Hollywood at the aged of 14, I realized that it was not the career for me. So when I got home I began making movies on my own. When I turned nineteen I moved to LA to begin my career as a director. ” Everybody who is in the entertainment industry knows that it is all about network and con-tacts. “It was very hard to start on my own, because I was so young and I didn’t know any-body! So I started as an actress, cause at least I had a lot of experiment in acting”, so Emma started in the small. “I brought an apartment in downtown LA and I started to be in movies and stuff as an actress. It went very well and I became a name in the industry” Emma tells. She was in a Broadway play called “Mistress Mysterious” and also over 20 films! But she hadn’t got her breakthrough yet. It was first when she got the offer of starring in the fourth Batman with Christian Bale as The Catwoman. “I was so pleased that I got that offer! It was a huge thing for me, because the Batman movies were a sucess already. So when I first got on set, I was really nervous. Director Christopher Nolan was so kind and he actually told me, that he was in love with my acting and picked me himself, which really calmed me down.” Emma laughed. The movie became a huge blockbuster and today it is the most viewed movie ever. Grossing more than $2 billion worldwide “Batman: The secret of the cat” has been a pretty good business for Emma, both considering for her bank account but also on the private side. “After Catwoman it started raining with offers with roles and I felt very grateful that this has happened for me. I have been acting in many years and won 3 Oscars for my performance, but at some point acting wasn’t what I had come to Hollywood to do. When I was an actress, I couldn’t stop breaking in, in some of the producer’s job or even the director’s job. Sometimes I gave unsolicited advice to my co-actors. Some also got really tired of me. And I really understand them…” Emma laughs and continues “So I started being producer on many films and it was really an exciting job! I was producer on Disney’s “Mikkel and the gold fish” and that was when I actually was pregnant with Mikkel, so we decided to name him after the movie (which also became an enormous blockbuster success). In total I have produced 16 movies so far, and I am still an active producer” says Emma and take a bite of her cake. “I finally got a job as a director, and I was thrilled! The crew was absolutely amazing, and today I am so proud of my first real movie as a director. Since then I have directed 27 movies and one of them is Yrsly.” Emma tells. Yrsly is one of Emma many movies, but for countless of people it became the movie of centuries. The movie is about a boy and his toy, when the toy one day disappears, the boy begins a journey around America to find his toy. The journey takes over 30 years and takes him to many places. He meets many people with different stories and when he finally founds his toy, it was not worth the same as it was 30 years ago. “As a director I had to overcome my fear of trust to other people and give them responsibility. It was and is very hard for me, because I always think I can to things another way – sometimes a better way. If the production company would let me, I would act, produce, film, clip and direct the whole movie” Emma laughs. “But I am very glad to have so many people around me, who supports me. My family in Denmark, My beloved Husband and all my fans! You are amazing!” she says. The route to fame hasn’t been easy for Emma. The business is very hard and as an actress people are always judging you. “I felt so small and I felt that I never was good enough. I had to give up a lot of boyfriends and love for my career, but today I don’t regret anything! There were many people who I through I could trust, but just let me down. But in my child-hood I was told to be strong and be myself – and always think positive and that helped me a lot. I don’t care about people’s opinion, but I love to listen to constructive criticism. There will always be people who don’t like you - that’s life. As I sit in front of her, it is easy to see how down-to-earth Emma is. She is natural and she is even more beautiful in real life. I really do understand Christian Bale for falling in love with this woman. The two met on the set for “Batman: The secret of the cat” and now they have two children and Emma is, as we know, pregnant again. “It was love at first sight – or al-most ha ha… I was and am still crazy about him! The way his mouth move when he talks and his body is sooooo sexy, I can’t get enough of him!” She says with a smile. Emma and Christian began seeing each other after the set and one night they stayed up all night to prac-tice the last scene – a kiss between Batman and Catwoman! “It was so romantic. At the end of the day, Christian came into my dressing room and wanted to talk to me, but as he opened the door I was changing and he looked at me very chocked. I wasn’t wearing anything else, but jeans and an unlocked bra. I jumped right over behind some of clothes racks and Christian was so embarrassed and it was very cute! He said that he just wanted to talk to me about the last scene and stuff. I said to him that, I just needed a t-shirt and then we could talk. He said sorry and closed the door again. I couldn’t stop laughing, at the situation but I managed to get dressed. We agreed to meet at Scene 2 at 8 pm. I was very exiting cause, I had a little crush on Christian, so when the clock finally was 8, I ran down to Scene 2 and Christian was already sitting on The Batman Mobile(we had used scene 2 the other day to film the scene were Batman and his mobile is arriving at Wayne ho-tels). We talked a lot that evening. When the time came to practice the scene it was a little bit awkward. We had practiced a lot and we both just kept on thinking about excuses to kiss each other. Then suddenly, we had practiced all night and would once again try our kiss, but this time Christian just kept kissing me! And then – BAM! We were standing there kissing – by our self. Not because of some scene we should practice, but because we wanted to. I think we kissed about 3 minutes before we stopped. Christian looked me deeply in the eyes and then he whispered “I’m crazy about you” and we kissed again! We went on all night and the next day, on the set, we couldn’t stop flirting and the chemistry between Batman and Catwoman was so real that director Christopher Nolan was overwhelmed. When the movie was done, me and Christopher published our relationship and now, here we are having a lovely family together!” Emma ends. Today Emma and Christian are better than ever, de-spite the fact that there are 7 years between the two. “Well, me and Christian love kids and especially our beautiful kids ha ha!” Emma laughs. Emma’s childhood friend Anne Korsgaard is now the richest journalist in the US and since they were little, they always dreamed about making something together. “We were always joking about being rich and famous. How Anne could feel that she was going to be rich. Anne is my best friend, we are having so much fun together, and I know I can trust her 100%. We understand each other and she is like a sister for me. And of cause many other friends for my childhood have helped me on my way. I am them ever grateful for being who they are” she ends. Emma has accomplished many things in her life, and is very lucky to experiment these things, which she knows. So with all these goals reached, there is almost nothing left to do. So what do you want to do now? “Well, when our kids get a little older we will travel around the world. Our kids have never been in Denmark, so we are definalty taking over there. I am in Denmark every year to visit my family and friends, but also to go to my ele-mentary school party, where the 8th grades are performing a play – which, when I was in 8th grade, was a huge thing for me! But right now I am busy with my production company Pa-norama films and of cause I am also making a lot of interviews about “A beautiful girl”. But I really enjoy living and I feel my life is such a success!” Emma ends with a smile. I leave the café with a light in my eyes. Emma is such an inspiring person, so positive and full of joy and happiness. She is defiantly the title “Legend” worth... |
